Advanced Academic Development

I support students from year 9 through their GCSE, A-Level, and IB studies, readying them for their journey towards university and beyond. The focus is not only developing subject knowledge, but the skills that underpin long-term academic success.

This is the formative period where targets and grades become more significant. It is important to balance these alongside mastering the skills required to think clearly and deeply, write effectively, and apply their knowledge across disciplines.

  • This core provision is built around the key skills required for success in essay-based subjects, including:

    • English, Politics, Economics, History, Philosophy, and related disciplines

Rather than teach subjects in isolation, this programme focuses on the academic competencies that drive performance across all of them, including:

    • Organisation and planning

    • Essay writing and composition

    • Structure, argumentation and evaluation

    • Source and evidence analysis

    • Critical thinking

  • Students often have good ideas and sufficient knowledge but lack the tools to present these within a clear written structure.

I simplify the process, from the initial planning through to the final execution.

    My students are guided to:

    • Break down essay questions effectively

    • Build coherent, structured arguments

    • Write with clarity, precision, and confidence

    • Develop a consistent, repeatable approach

    My support has helped:

    • (I)GCSE students gain confidence and consistency

    • A-Level students move from mid-range grades to A/A* performance

Once the student understands the fundamentals of writing, the process becomes far more natural and satisfying.

  • I cover all syllabuses for the following subjects:

    Politics (GCSE/A level/IB)

    Economics (GCSE/A level/IB)

    Philosophy (GCSE/A level/IB)

    History (GCSE/A level/IB)

    English Language (GCSE/A level/IB)

  • I support students through key academic transitions, including:

    • Helping identify the student’s academic direction and subject choices

    • University applications and personal statements

    • Study skills for higher education

Programmes Offered:

  • "Dween provided assistance with our daughter’s Politics A-Level. She was uncertain about a number of topics in her final year and was generally low in confidence. From the start, his tone was reassuring and he laid out a clear plan to address the issues and to prepare for the exam. It was evident that he had a strong understanding of not only the course material but also the marking system for her particular exam board. Sessions had a clear structure but there was plenty of flexibility to allow for discussion of topics that popped up along the way. He also provided helpful course material of his own. Ultimately, she got a top grade and we are confident that Dween played his part in this. We would be very happy recommending him to other students in a similar situation."
